Something about Jedi and Sith using their lightsabers for epic space wizard fights draws fans in like no other weapon can. Maybe it’s their beauty or being capable of deflecting blaster bolts that draw fans in so strongly?

But how exactly does that futuristic weapon function? Its makeup consists of plasma, an electromagnetic state with great cutting potential that can slice through virtually anything. Check these lightsaber reviews.

Blade

A lightsaber blade is a one-meter-long shaft of pure energy. Its blade hums and vibrates audibly when activated, leaving cauterized wounds in its victims. It can deflect blaster bolts, absorb Force lightning strikes, duel other lightsaber blades or cut through most materials except metal.

Jedi knights and Sith lords use Kyber crystals to power their lightsabers, with each choice of crystal determining its colour: Blue blades are created from crystals that resonate with the light side, while red ones reflect darker energies of the Force.

Nelson Shin was hired as a sword expert during the filming of Star Wars movies to use special cameras to simulate weapon lighting effects for its glowing blade. Using a rotoscope technique, Nelson would draw animated frames onto footage shot of physical blade props built by John Stears from old Graflex press camera flash battery packs and other hardware.

Hilt

A lightsaber’s hilt houses all of its components that enable it to work, such as its handle. Hilts typically have metal construction and may feature designs or symbols associated with Jedi rituals that bring their wielder closer to the Force. Check these lightsaber reviews.

The pommel cap, focusing lens and power switch are attached to the hilt, and a Kyber crystal provides power. Kyber crystals have long been aligned with the Force and found on several planets throughout space; younglings would often visit Ilum to obtain their own Kyber Crystal as part of an initiatory ceremony.

This hilt features a coupler that connects it to another hilt for use as a double-bladed staff, like those seen used by Darth Maul and other notable warriors. Based on Jedi preferences, its design may include various aesthetic or functional enhancements – some featuring deeply grooved grips. In contrast, others possess elegant and decorative designs like engraving images of Sith homeworlds or fallen temple ruins on their pommel.

Emitter

Lightsaber blades are composed of pure plasma, an electromagnetic state capable of cutting through nearly anything. Their energy source comes from Kyber crystals found naturally (though not easily) on Naboo and other planets across the galaxy.

When two lightsabers come into contact in combat, their magnetic fields change, releasing massive amounts of energy that result in their characteristic “drone and hum”. It may explain why real lightsabers produce such distinctive sounds when wielded in real life.

Different emitter colours add visual interest and reveal what role a Jedi fulfils within the Force. For instance, green signifies that they are Consular Jedi–an older and wiser member who focuses more on mental aspects rather than physical ones of the Force.

Crystals

Kyber crystals were an integral component of lightsabers, channelling energy directly into its plasma blade and connecting with the Force. As rare and spiritually significant objects, Jedi could select the crystal that resonated most deeply. Check these lightsaber reviews.

Other gems and crystals could also be used as lightsaber components across the galaxy, although most did not resonate as strongly with the Force as a Kyber would. Non-Kyber crystals often added special visual effects while providing other abilities as well.

Power Cell

Star Wars lore portrays the lightsaber as the ultimate sci-fi weapon, looking good and capable of deflecting blaster bolts and cutting metal with ease – a top blade everyone wishes they had in their arsenal!

Force-sensitive Jedi and Sith both wield lightsabers as signature weapons of their Order or Side; for the Jedi, this usually has blue and green hues, while Sith often uses red-bladed ones.

Felici indicates that the distinctive drone and hum of lightsabers are produced by electromagnetic fields that ionize air molecules, causing them to vibrate, creating that characteristic noise.

Power cells can be found throughout the game as you complete missions, one found during Aloy’s original Maker’s End quest and another during completing All-Mother Mountain via an air duct in Faro’s office. Once all five cells have been collected, they can be used to upgrade your saber as well as be recharged at the power generator on All-Mother Mountain’s base ruins.
